Respite Care

As part of our ongoing support to patients and their families, our Respite Care Service aims to offer temporary relief when caregivers in the home become overburdened. The presence of a hospice carer allows family members some time off to rest or to carry out errands.
Sometimes the family member caring for the sick person is also the bread winner or has commitments away from home. Here again the presence of a hospice carer helps to enable such activities to be continued.
The service is also offered to patients who live alone and who would benefit from a carer’s presence for a few hours on a regular basis.
Respite Care is part of a whole package of care which aims to help maintain patients in their own home, if that is what they wish and to support families who, together with patients are considered to be the ‘unit of care’.
