Complementary Therapist

Accountable To: Chief Clinical Officer and/or Delegate

Qualifications: Qualified in Complimentary Therapy and Reflexology

Aims: To provide complimentary therapy to patients at home, day therapy, in patient unit and hospital/homes.

Knowledge and Skills Needed:

To make an assessment regarding the type of massage to use for specific medical conditions.
To assess which oils to use according to different medical conditions and treatment being given.
Excellent communication skills.
To be in possession of a valid driving license.

Responsibilities:

To asses, plan, implement and follow up patient care.
To discuss and offer advice to other team members on a one-to-one level as well as during team meetings.
To record assessments, follow-up visits and telephone contacts.
Liase with other professionals involved in the care both within and outside the Hospice team.
To refer to other professionals or agencies when necessary.
To always promote awareness of palliative care.
To make sure that all tools\ equipment used are clean and in good working condition.
To make sure that the Hospice clinic is always safe to use as per infection control measures.

Education:

To keep abreast of current developments in palliative care.
To contribute to and attend in-service training and organized courses when appropriate.
To mentor and supervise any new staff and students.

General Responsibilities:

To abide with the policies and procedures of Hospice Malta.
To act as a spokesperson for the Hospice Malta when required.
To undertake any other activities and responsibilities, commensurate with the position, as directed by the management.
