Education & Training

Education and promotion of palliative care is at the heart of Hospice Malta. As part of Human resource management and development, during the recruitment process as well as during training, emphasis is put on the importance of employees’ aptitude and attitude towards delivering patient centred care. Hospice’s education unit provides educational sessions at both undergraduate and post graduate levels in addition to providing in-service training to staff and volunteers to ensure that they have the necessary knowledge and skills. Through this education program students are enabled to take on board the holistic approach used by the Hospice multidisciplinary team.

These take the form of:

  • Lectures and Placements to University students and professionals
  • Care assistants introductory course on palliative care
  • The European Certificate in Essential Palliative Care
  • Biennial Palliative Care Conference

The application of such principles in practice calls for an investigation of all the possible clinical pathways with an analysis focusing on the patient and the various needs he/she will encounter, it being at an in-patient or community level.
