The Ministry for Health and Hospice Malta announced an agreement through which €2.5 million will be provided to Hospice over the next three years, to cover part of its professional salaries and specialised equipment expenses.

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne said that the government recognizes the need for Hospice’s services.

“Hospice has been essential in giving palliative care to those who need it the most. Hospice Malta facilitates one’s ability to live a dignified life till the very end, surrounded by their loved ones,” Fearne said.

The NGO’s chairperson, Bernadette Bonnici Kind, thanked the ministry as well as the public for their financial contributions. “Hospice Malta has been providing palliative care services for the past 32 years for patients suffering from life limiting conditions. As medical conditions continue to increase, Hospice needs to expand its services to be able to reach out to more patients and offer them more services, to enable them to remain within their home environment for as long as possible. This target can only be achieved through the building of our new premises – St Michael Hospice -which will allow for the expansion of services within the community as well as the introduction of new in-patient services.”
