Please find below the latest COVID-19 update from Hospice Malta as at 22.09.2020

We know that these past months have been unusually difficult for all our patients and their loved ones. COVID-19 preventive measures have added a layer of hardship and anxiety, that we have had to cope with over and above our own health issues or those of a family member.

We know all too well that keeping in touch with Hospice has been crucial, and have worked as hard as we could to ensure we continued to provide our services, where possible, even if remotely, every step of the way. And we will continue to do so.

The safety of our staff, patients and visitors is of paramount importance. In response to the current Covid-19 pandemic, we are continuously reviewing and adapting our ways of working. With great diligence, we’ve had to take action to avoid any possibility of infection, in particular for vulnerable persons. We have in fact during recent weeks, had to once again stop home visits by our team of professionals, as well as the loan of equipment service and Day Therapy.

However, our care team is in constant contact with patients and their families, through telephone, as well as zoom and Skype sessions.

Patients are availing themselves of assessments and advice by our doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, physiotherapists, chaplain as well as complementary therapists, even though physical contact is at the moment limited.

Recordings as well as leaflets of basic physiotherapy and complementary therapy sessions are being made available, and many other resources are available on our website and on our Facebook channel.

Hospice Malta also has an after hours nursing advice on call service (Tel: 7922 8822) so that we are available to patients and families each day till 22:00 hours.

In addition, we are currently reviewing our patients’ situations on a case-by-case basis. In the coming weeks, we shall be relaxing some of the restrictive measures to allow some physical contact with the patient, only in cases when the risk is deemed to be minimal. All decisions will be taken with our patients’ health as a top priority.

We are ultimately here to help. Take good care of yourselves and keep in touch.
